Battlestar Galactica has been a fairly successful sci-fi franchise. Starting with the original series in 1978, it spawned a short lived spin-off in the 80s, the recent re-imagined series, comics, card and a few video games. This particular game is based on the 2003 re-imagined series. |

The story is set around the first two seasons of the TV series, and follows a viper pilot as he flies through the set missions. Other than the short snippets of text in between missions, there really isn't much of a story or any kind of story progression. It's just assumed that the player will have a good knowledge of the series. The whole game is just a series of disjointed missions. |

The gameplay is very arcade-like, with the player controlling the Viper (space ship) and flying around on a 2D plane (in space). The ship has missiles, lasers and a shield, with ammo and shield recharges scattered throughout the levels. The missions are either the "protect x" or "destroy y" missions. However, thanks to the awkward controls and repetitive missions, the game quickly becomes boring. |

The game is played with keyboard and mouse controls. The controls are as complicated as they are unresponsive. There are keys for rolling, accelerating, twisting turning strafing, all of which are totally useless in a 2D environment and the mouse controls only work half the time. Needless complication. |

The game is played on a 2D plane, but uses an isometric perspective to give the illusion of a 3D game. The graphics are of average quality, and the backgrounds are very well drawn and look really nice. It also performs really well on a low-end computer. Even the main objects, like the vipers, raiders or the Base Star look ok. |

Being a very small game, the sound effects are very average and often seem reused. There is some ambiance, and a little bit of music which adds to the game, but unfortunately gets lost in a sea of mediocrity. |

This is a pretty poor attempt at a game, and the fact that it's syndicated with Battlestar Galactica does not help it at all. Basically, this is a hastily thrown together game with no story and unfinished controls. |

The recent re-imagined Battlestar Galactica (BSG) series may be a good show to watch, but that doesn't stop Sierra from ruining it with a disgrace of a game. I'm pretty sure that at the time of this game's creation, there were three choices: a BSG pinball game, a BSG Space Invader's clone and a jar of mayonnaise. The designers obviously ate the jar of mayo and in the process chose very poorly.

In this sorry game, you are 5 pixels on the screen representing one of the craft in the show (a viper or some such scary name). The objective is the same as in Space Invaders: make sense of the graphics enough to find out what's going on. In addition, thanks to recent technology, you also have to wrestle with Guarasmo, a monster which replaces the standard controls in a game. Instead of using the keys to navigate up-down-left-right, you have to get Guarasmo in specific submission positions (these constantly change so you have to guess which position is what direction). As a result, the game becomes rather hard to play.
It would be easier to rugby on a land-mine filled field with knee-high grass and beartraps!
Anyway, this game sux!
